Ebrahim Abbasi, Chief Executive Officer and PresidentEbrahim is the chief executive officer and president. Previously Ebrahim served as chief operating officer at Violin. Ebrahim is a veteran of Silicon Valley with an established track record in high growth as well as turnaround success stories. Prior to Violin, Ebrahim served as president for Roamware (now Mobileum) where he was responsible for restructuring and refocusing the company on a growth path. Prior to Roamware, Ebrahim held the position of president and COO at Force10 Networks Inc. where he transformed the company into a major cloud computing powerhouse and led its acquisition by Dell in 2011
Before joining Force10, Ebrahim held the position of senior vice president and COO/CIO for Redback Networks, Inc. where he directly contributed to the turnaround of the company’s corporate operations functions that led to a $2.1B acquisition by Ericsson in 2006. Prior to that, Ebrahim was the executive responsible for access product operations and a member of the executive team that grew Ascend Communications into a $24B acquisition target by Lucent Technologies.
Jim Curley, Chief Financial Officer
Jim Curley is a proven CFO with over 20 years of experience. He was CFO at four publicly-traded companies, three of which he led through their IPO’s (LeapFrog Enterprises, Gymboree Corporation & Huffman Koos). Also, he was CEO for 8 years at Nano-Tex, Inc., a WL Ross & Co. majority-owned company, where he restructured the company, raised a second round of venture capital funding and sold the Company to Crypton, Inc. in 2014. Mr. Curley received his B.B.A. in Finance from Texas A&M University and was a CPA with Arthur Andersen & Co. He served 4 years as an officer (Captain) in the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon, Washington D.C.
Susan Scheer Aoki, Executive Vice President, Product Operations
Susan Scheer Aoki is Executive Vice President, Product Operations. She oversees product development, SW and HW architecture, Product Development, Product Validation, Deployment Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Professional Services and Techncial Support. Prior to this position, she led Customer Experience with responsibility for Professional Services, Global Support, and Customer Experience, and she oversaw Operations with responsibility for QA/Validation, Manufacturing Operations, and Solutions Engineering. Ms. Scheer Aoki joined the Company in April 2015 and brings a successful track record leading Major Account Services, Converged Infrastructure Solutions, Software Engineering, Product Management, and Marketing.
Scheer Aoki Scheer Aoki has two decades of experience in executive management in enterprise systems, software and services. She joined Violin from NetApp, where she was VP of personalized enterprise services, a position she accepted after serving as VP of customer success strategy, and before that VP of solutions and ITaaS. Prior to her years at NetApp she had a long career at Cisco Systems, holding VP and other senior roles in product and engineering management.
A longtime advocate for women in technology, Cable World named Ms. Scheer Aoki to its “Powerful Women 2006: Top Women in Technology” list. She was also featured in the Mass High Tech Journal “2006 Top Women to Watch” list, and California Diversity Council’s Most Powerful and Influential Women of California 2011.
Ms. Scheer Aoki holds dual B.A. degrees from the University of California, Davis and an M.B.A the University of California, Irvine.
Tim Stoakes, Chief Architect
As Chief Architect, Tim oversees the architecture team in formulating the vision and architecture for all Violin products and IP development, and directly participates in all phases of product development. Tim has spent over 15 years in the software industry, with the majority in enterprise storage, where he holds multiple US patents.
Before joining Violin in 2013 he served as Technical Director at Quantum (after acquiring deduplication pioneers Rocksoft) in the office of the CTO, responsible for the entire life cycle of the deduplication product lines. Tim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Adelaide, Australia.
Georgine Nordin, VP International Alliances
Georgine has spent nearly three decades in executive roles at technology companies, holding VP-level titles with responsibility for sales, service operations, strategic partnerships, financial and strategic planning. She has served Violin since 2014, first as vice president, worldwide sales operations and support, then as vice president, worldwide field operations, following positions at Ericsson, Actelis Networks, Network Equipment Technologies, and Redback Networks. As a specialist in international business, she has a wealth of experience in global channel relationships, international trade laws, multi-county compensation, contract negotiations, and partnerships, in EMEA, APAC, and Latin America. She is a graduate of San Jose State University.
Pat Balakrishnan, Vice President, Software Development
Pat Balakrishnan is the Vice President, Software Development at Violin. He has 25 years of leadership experience in software development for storage, server, and networking technologies. Pat has previously held management and senior technical positions at SeaMicro (acquired by AMD), Blade Network Technologies (acquired by IBM), Alcatel-Lucent, Riverstone Networks (acquired by Lucent) and Cabletron Systems.
Rick Ruskin, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations
Rick is a Sales Leader with significant experience in Storage, Virtualization, Security, and e-Discovery. Rick has been instrumental in growing sales under significant challenges contributing to successful exit in a number of technology companies. With more than 30 years of experience growing companies to be market leaders, Rick is a great match for Violin’s growth moving forward. Rick comes to Violin from Kaminario, where he was vice president of North America channel sales business, significantly growing the business by signing hundreds of partners and industry-leading OEMs. A doctoral candidate for physiology at Columbia University, Rick earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from University of Colorado.
